Problem
To design a multi-residential housing development in Brunswick West
Client Requests
Must design a diverse range of topologies
Must cater for a diverse demographic of inhabitants
Must connect with & make meaningful contribution to the existing social & environmental fabric of Brunswick West
Plan, Section, Elevation, Isometric / Axonometric, Perspective Illustrations / Renders, Typological Diagrams, Details, Vignettes & more
Solution
To embrace systematic & modular living
To inject Australian vernacular design within the thematic underpinnings of the development
To permit operable definition of private & semi private spaces
By using a gridded system I was able to create typologies that sat within a family of orthogonal spatial & formal qualities. I was able to inject Australian heritage & tapestry by including a walkway that made reference to aboriginal rivers & embankments. By employing a bifold door, roof & floor I was able to create an operable living system for inhabitants to change according to their needs
After my review it appeared that all thematic considerations & underpinnings were appropriate, however spatially there needed to be more flexibility within the circulation around the development - notably, to the more private realms across the site.
